Colorful and lively, the Dragon Boat Festival celebrates a day of races in narrow boats shaped like dragons. Competing teams row their boats in sync with a furious rhythm pounded out by on-board drummers. Check them out on Aug. 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Flushing Meadows Park.
Dragon boat races are believed to have originated in China more than 2,500 years ago, contemporaneous with the Greeks beginning their games at Olympia.
