On September 29th, 2009, an 8.3 magnitude earthquake generated a tsunami that devastated the island of American Samoa. Three waves, the highest reaching almost 36 feet, crushed coastal structures, shorelines and coral reefs, killed 150 people and left a laboratory for researchers who study the mechanics of what is one of the most destructive forces in nature.
That alone is reason enough for the FBI to be on alert and issuing such a warning is the most responsible thing to do,” continued Davids. “Unfortunately there is little an ordinary person can do against a determined wave whether it is a part of a tsunami or even a rogue acting alone. The last thing the FBI wants to do, I’m sure, is create panic and encourage ordinary Americans to try and tackle a wave onslaught by themselves.”
The real concern is that these waves will start to move towards the continental United States. Such forces arrayed against cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco could be devastating and result in the deaths of thousands of actual Americans, perhaps even millions.
The Tsunami is just the latest in as series of natural events to rock that area of the world in recent weeks, though it is the first to target American properties in the region, which prompted the warning from the FBI. Already investigations into the cause and nature of the event have been undertaken but it is unlikely that anyone will be brought to justice, citing the likelihood that earthquake was a naturally occurring phenomenon which traditionally has been very difficult to bring to justice. Nonetheless, FBI officials are warning Americans to remain on alert especially when travelling overseas and to report any suspicious wave activity.
Workers with the American Red Cross and partner agencies are "dealing with 70 villages that were affected, some more heavily damaged than others," as a result of the Sept. 29 tsunami, reports American Red Cross worker Barbara Riester from American Samoa.

Bruce stayed with the Kayapo village of Krinu for the last phase of his Amazon trip. The Kayapo are a powerful and well-known Brazilian tribe who inhabit a vast area of the Amazon across the Central Brazilian Plateau. In 2003 the Kayapo population stood at an estimated 7,096. Within their vast area, there are many subgroups and some of these smaller communities are known to exist in virtual isolation, having little direct contact with other Kayapo. They do not refer to themselves as Kayapo preferring the term Mebengokre, meaning 'the men from the water place', but because it is their public name they are happy for it to be used.
Kayapo culture is characteristically rich and complex. Their appearance is highly decorative and colourful, using face and body paint, beads and feathers. The Kayapo believe their ancestors learnt how to live communally from social insects such as bees, which is why mothers and children paint each other's bodies with patterns that look like animal or insect markings, including those of bees. Women shave the distinctive V shape into the scalp and men ceremonially wear the flamboyant Kayapo headdress with outwardly radiating feathers, which represents the universe. The rope of the headdress is a symbol for the cotton rope by which the first Kayapo is believed to have descended from the sky. Traditional ceremonies may last many months and mark the beginning and end of seasons as well as rites of passage. Their beliefs are linked to their environment, which they rely on for sustenance and material resources.
The Kayapo have a long history of contact with others. Since the initial arrival of Europeans around 500 years ago, the Kayapo have experienced forced migration further west into the rainforests as a result of invasions, they have lost land and habitat and they have also suffered from the introduction of diseases that accompanied the arrival of outsiders.
The Fang are especially known for their guardian figures, which they attach to wooden boxes containing bones of the ancestors. The bones, by tradition, are said to contain the power of the dead person, in fact, the same amount of power that the person had while still alive. 
To sum up, a comparison of Maasai and Zulu traditions indicates that African culture still remains colorful. A common aspect is that of keeping cattle though the number of cattle and the system of rearing them depends with tribe. The Maasai move from one place to another in search of water and pasture while the Zulu confine their herd in one field. The dressing styles still remain very traditional within the different tribes with colorful wears being the order of the day. But the different ways of dressing are clearly evident with Maasai dressing in red sheets while the Zulu have beads forming their wear. Elders play a great role in administering rules and ensuring harmony and justice. Whereas the Maasai are led by a warrior who is also their god, the Zulu are led by a king. Women roles are similar and mostly limited to household duties together with bringing up children. In this polygamous setting, each woman has her own hut where the husband would visit time and again. The commonness in music and dance is also a clear-cut similarity. Maasai young men mostly do the dancing as compared to the Zulu belly dance which is seen widely as a female’s preserve. And despite the influence from other cultures especially the western culture, the African image is still being protected by these tribes
Just like the Maasai tribe, the Zulu tribe has traditions that continue to color the traditional image of Africa in the international arena. Their dressing code which also includes colorful beads has made them a famous tribe. Likewise, the Zulu roles are well defined with the men taking the head of family and the women being the housewives. In addition, the men are polygamous and their rank in the society is determined by the number of children one possesses. Cattle keeping is also one of their practices. However, unlike the maasai, they also do farming and the number of heads of cattle is comparatively smaller compared to the Maasai’s. Therefore, they do not move from place to place but instead live as a community in one place. Zulu women are very good in African art designing which is mostly composed of beads, and this tradition has attracted thousands of tourists in South Africa. Elders are endowed with the decision making responsibility on behalf of the community and unlike the Maasai, they have a King who is highly respected and possesses a lot of power. Moreover, education is informal and is based on the teachings about the traditions and customs of the tribe although formal education is attracting many of the Zulu’s to formal schooling system in South Africa. Their music and dancing style forms a greater part of the social activities and is characterized by shaking energetically especially the belly dance. Their traditional houses are semi-permanent made of mad and pieces of wood unlike the maasai ones which are temporary and made of cow dung. As evident with the Maasai’s, the traditions and customs of the Zulu still standout in Africa.
Using slash and burn techniques the Fang still farm as their chief occupation. During the early years of European settlement many resorted to elephant hunting to provide ivory for the traders.
